FLORIANOPOLIS AIRPORT II

Florianópolis International Airport underwent a privatization process in 2017. The demands of the current operator led to the design of a terminal with two operational levels (boarding and disembarking) and ten boarding bridges. This entirely new structure was implanted on the opposite side of the main runway – in territory without previous occupation – in order to allow the existing terminal to be deactivated. To enable its implementation, on the so-called landside, new accesses from the city and new parking areas were designed. On the airside, new taxiways and a new aircraft yard were built.

The program for the new terminal was then organized in two blocks composing a "T". The processor houses, the administrative areas and the arrivals and boarding halls – the latter with generous ceilings, without the intervention of pillars and with a wall covered with Brazilian Walnut inclined to allow the passage of air conditioning ducts. The large roof of metal structure and design inspired by aeronautical geometry gives this block uniqueness, in addition to, through zenith openings designed from subtractions and folds in the plane, allowing natural light to enter. Its tears were strategically positioned over the check-in counters and over the garden with native species of vegetation. The garden mediates between the boarding curb – protected from the weather by the 17.5m cantilevered roof – and the interior of the processor. A vast glass plane crosses this vegetation and allows the Santa Catarina landscape to enter the terminal.
The connector houses, the departure lounges and baggage carousels. The block is a long rectangular prism clad in corrugated metal sheets. The ten boarding bridges give rhythm to its predominantly horizontal façade. The glazed planes facing the runway allow passengers to watch landings and takeoffs protected from the sun by an eaves that extends towards the aircraft apron.
