History and Geography also compete in the construction of the extraordinary beauty of this place. Geography, through various geological and vegetation features. History, expressed in a precious fragment of the old Convent of São Boaventura, an eloquent testimony of Brazilian architecture and culture in general.
The Project for the COMPERJ Information Centre was born from the desire to belong more to Geography than to History, a building that removes the temptation to promote any movement that will alter the elements of the landscape still in perfect balance.
The search for metaphorical reference in geological forms also finds a parallel and nexus in the sources of energy from the depths of the earth, the exploitation of which constitutes the very craft of the institution to which the building is intended to be located.
The building adopts a semi-buried solution and builds the usable space from a square base plan, consisting of two slabs, one for the floor and one for the roof. Its implantation follows a rigid geometry derived from the convent and the bell tower.
The main access is from the ramp and the square that becomes a memorial to the Cornerstone and from which all the spaces of use are distributed in the most convenient way and around its perimeter.
The design of the implantation makes the level of the roof coincide with the level of the convent, in order to preserve the best possibilities for its visualization and for the designation of the open-air museum on the same level.
