Florianópolis Airport has established itself as one of the main Brazilian destinations for domestic and international tourism. With a capacity for 1.2 million users per year, it received 1.28 million passengers in 2003. The new terminal will serve 2.7 million passengers per year, meeting the expected future demand.
The adopted approach favors the best operational performance, considering, from a compact and linear implementation, the future possibility of expanding to the east a module intended only for international traffic. The building is organized on two operational levels – ground floor and mezzanine – and on a third floor for the administration of Infraero. The ground floor has 36 check-in counters, baggage handling, disembarking with a free shop, as well as different administrative support rooms. On the mezzanine are located the commercial spaces and the departure lounges, which have four bridges, with the food court and a panoramic terrace at their east end. The volume destined for the Aeronautical Operations Center extends from the mezzanine and projects over the aircraft yard.
The formal conception is extremely simple and is made explicit in the cut. A continuous line that is born as a metal roof changes direction, creating a glass façade and finally transforming into the concrete floor of the mezzanine. The result, in addition to referring to aerodynamic shapes, offers a generous spatiality to the interior of the building. Due to the large dimensions of the roof – 250m x 70m -, a protected zenith opening, located in the center and along the entire longitudinal length, allows light to enter the internal areas. The new terminal will have a built area of 27,400m², parking with 1,820 spaces and an aircraft yard with 63,700m².
