TAMBORE CHURCH

2001

The project of the Tamboré Church is organized based on a clear and expressive structural gesture: a large curved metal roof that defines the main liturgical space and gives identity to the whole. This arched structure, slightly offset from the conventional axis, creates a continuous, wide and unitary interior, in which spatial perception is driven by the very shape of the roof and the modulation of the apparent metal porticos.

The relationship between structure, light and matter is central to the project. The front closure in large glazed cloth allows the controlled entry of natural light, reinforced by the abstract stained glass window, which qualifies the internal space with variable colors and atmospheres throughout the day. The materials — steel, exposed concrete and glass — are used in a frank way, evidencing the construction system and reinforcing the contemporary and tectonic character of the building.
